On March 13, 2025, Pi Network introduced a two-factor authentication (2FA) feature that requires certain users (Pioneers) to complete 2FA before successfully migrating their Pi to the Mainnet blockchain. This feature secures and validates users’ Pi wallets by verifying a trusted email address, thereby supporting the security of accounts and their Pi.
Some users may already have a trusted email address that they can use to initiate 2FA to confirm their migration wallet, while others will need to set up a trusted email before completing 2FA. Setting up a trusted email is done by completing a liveness check, which ensures that a trusted email address is provided by the account owner. They will receive this prompt in the mining application. Only users who have completed KYC (including pre-KYC) are currently eligible to add a trusted email. The trusted email is also used for other important account verifications such as account renewals. Therefore, it is essential to add an email that you own and trust. Providing a random email address that you don’t have access to will result in a failure to complete the verification-and subsequently you will not be able to validate your wallet to migrate your Pi or renew your account in the future.
Once a trusted email is added, these users will receive progressive prompts after the mining session and in some cases email notifications to complete 2FA to verify their migration wallets. Alternatively, users can complete 2FA wallet validation through the Mainnet Checklist. In the 2FA interface, users must confirm access to the migration wallet (or change it by creating a new one) and then receive another email to verify this confirmation. Users will only receive emails from the address “noreply@pi.email”. Do not trust any other emails to avoid phishing or fraudulent attempts.
For the security of their account and Pi, some users who have migrated their Pi to Mainnet in recent weeks but are still in the 14-day waiting period will need to complete the 2FA request above; otherwise, their Pi will be safely returned to their mining application. Once these users complete 2FA, their migration of the original balance or a slightly higher amount will be re-queued to the Mainnet blockchain.
